82 Million Devices to Receive Stablecoin Support
The Solana Foundation announced on Wednesday, October 8, 2026, that Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will support transfers of Circle’s USDC stablecoin on the Solana blockchain. The feature is set to launch in the last week of October 2026 for users in the United States. At launch, the capability will be available on 82 million Samsung Galaxy devices.
Woncheol Chai, a representative for Samsung, stated that the integration aims to simplify the movement of digital assets for the general public. “Stablecoins have the potential to make moving money around the world faster and easier, and we want Galaxy users to be able to take advantage of that without having to navigate the complexity of traditional crypto tools,” Chai said.
Fiat Conversion and Cross-Border Functionality
The update allows U.S. users to send USDC across borders. To facilitate these transactions, Samsung is including built-in fiat on- and off-ramps that will allow users to convert funds to and from local currencies. According to the announcement, Solana’s infrastructure will operate “behind the scenes” for these transfers, meaning the underlying blockchain mechanics will not be the primary interface for the end user.
The release does not specify if Circle is a direct partner in the development, if users will hold their own private keys, or the specific cost of transfers. Additional markets will follow the U.S. launch, subject to local regulatory requirements.
This development follows a preview shown at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London in July. That earlier announcement included a mockup of the wallet holding USDC but did not name an issuer, blockchain, or launch date.
Context in the Stablecoin Market
Solana has seen significant growth in stablecoin activity this year. Volume on the network in 2026 has exceeded $5.25 trillion, while the supply of stablecoins on Solana has increased by nearly 20% year-over-year. The Solana Foundation cited several major enterprises that already utilize the network for stablecoin operations, including PayPal, Western Union, and Visa. Visa has specifically used USDC on Solana for payment settlement.
Lily Liu, who is associated with the Solana ecosystem, commented on the strategic nature of the partnership. “Samsung’s decision to work with Solana puts digital dollars into everyday life through one of the world’s most trusted technology brands,” Liu said.
History of Samsung’s Crypto Integration
Samsung has a history of integrating digital asset tools into its hardware. The company launched a blockchain wallet for Galaxy phones in 2019 and added crypto support on the Galaxy S20, including Stellar integration and hardware wallet connections. More recently, in October of the previous year, Samsung brought Coinbase into Samsung Wallet, a move that reached 75 million U.S. users.
The partnership also highlights the broader ecosystem of Solana Mobile, which released the Saga smartphone in 2023 and the Seeker smartphone last year. Solana Mobile airdropped its SKR token to Seeker users, a distribution that did not extend to Saga owners. The involvement of Multicoin Capital’s Kyle Samani in the Solana Mobile Stack has been a point of discussion within the industry. Samani admitted that early skepticism was common. “99% of people thought that [Yakovenko]’s initiatives around phones were dumb. I also thought the same thing for a while,” Samani said, referring to Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko. Yakovenko responded to the general skepticism in the startup world: “99/100 founder led initiatives are dumb. Doing nothing is also dumb. That’s basically why startups are hard.”
Why It Matters
This integration brings stablecoin transfers to 82 million U.S. Galaxy devices, potentially lowering the barrier to entry for mainstream consumers. By handling fiat conversions and blockchain infrastructure behind the scenes, Samsung is positioning its wallet as a utility for everyday cross-border payments rather than a tool for advanced crypto traders. The move also cements Solana's role in high-volume stablecoin settlements alongside major financial institutions.
