Bittensor TAO Slides to $265 as Traders Test $252 Support

Retreat from September Peak

Bittensor [TAO] is currently trading near $265, a significant decline from its mid-September peak of $340. According to AMBCrypto, the asset lost bullish momentum following a strong rally that began in early September. The drop reflects profit-taking by traders as the market shifts from accumulation to distribution.

The current correction follows a period of consolidation. TAO hovered around the $215 level through most of August and early September. During this phase, buyers absorbed selling pressure, keeping the price within a tight range. In early September, a spike in trading volume drove the token past a strong resistance level at approximately $255. That former resistance area subsequently acted as support, facilitating a surge toward $340 before buyer pressure began to wane.

Technical Signals of Weakening Demand

The weakening momentum observed near the $340 level marked the start of a distribution phase. Technical indicators showed bearish divergence, indicating that demand was decreasing even as prices were still increasing. This divergence suggested that underlying buying interest was fading despite the upward price action.

TAO also declined below its ascending trend line, signaling a loss of short-term momentum. Trading below the $300 level has represented a structural change in the market, shifting the narrative from accumulation to distribution. Several rebound attempts have failed to push TAO above the $300 and $315 levels. During these failed rebounds, sellers began leaving positions at lower prices, creating overhead supply that restricted further gains.

Decreased trading volume has further limited the potential for immediate rebounds. The combination of lower highs and shrinking volume indicates that the market lacks the fuel to break through the resistance levels established during the initial rally.

Critical Support and Downside Risk

The $252–$255 zone is now the focal point for market participants. This area represents the former resistance that broke in early September. Holding this level would indicate that buyers are still defending the breakout. Conversely, losing the $252–$255 area would invalidate the support shift and expose the failed breakout, potentially leading to a deeper correction.

For buyers to regain control, TAO would need to move above $280. This level would break the string of lower highs and offer buyers a recovery opportunity. Reclaiming the $300 level with increasing volume would provide stronger evidence of a successful reversal. Such a reversal would clear a path toward previous targets of $320 and $340.

On the downside, a four-hour close below $252 would expose the $215 level. A drop to $215 would put the entire September rally at risk of a full retracement, returning the asset to its pre-breakout consolidation range. The current trading status near $265 leaves the market in a pivotal position, where the outcome of the $252–$255 support test will determine the next major directional move for Bittensor’s native token.

Why It Matters

The $252–$255 zone determines whether the September breakout remains valid or fails entirely. If sellers push TAO below this level, the token risks a full retracement to $215, erasing the gains from the recent rally. Traders and holders are watching this support closely as it defines the boundary between a temporary correction and a structural downtrend.
